Dr. Pierantonio Cinzano
Degree in astronomy (1991) and PhD in astronomy at the University of Padova, Italy, where he carried out his research about light pollution until april 2006, responsible of the research project "Light pollution and protection of sites" of the University funded under the "Research Projects Young Researchers 2002", responsible of the research project “Global monitoring of light pollution and night sky brightness from satellite measurements” funded by the Italian Space Agency (ASI), member of Commission 50 "Protection of the existing and potential astronomical sites" of the International Astronomical Union (IAU), member of the Technical Committee 4-21 "Interference from light on the astronomical observations" of the "Commission Internationale de l’Eclairage" (CIE), member of the Working Group GL8 "Light Pollution" of the Commission "Light and lighting" of the "Ente Italiano di Unificazione" (UNI, the Italian Organization for Standardization), Scientific Director of the Italian section of the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA), founder of the National Commission about Light Pollution of the Unione Astrofili Italiani, awarded by the Italian Physical Society (SIF) for the best communication about "Geophysics and Environmental Physics" at the LXXXV Annual Meeting, IDA Award 1999 and 2001, author of many scientific publications on peer-reviewed journals, booklets and books on the argument.
